Tianjin (天津), a municipality directly under the central government of China, is the largest port city in northern China. Known as the "convergence of nine rivers," it rose to prominence through grain transport and, after opening as a treaty port in 1860, became one of the earliest northern Chinese ports to the outside world. The city features a distinctive landscape where Chinese and Western elements blend, earning it the reputation of an "exposition of international architecture," as well as a vibrant local culture celebrated as the "Home of Quyi."
The 240-hour visa-free transit is one of China's visa exemption policies provided to eligible foreigners coming from selected countries.
